Tregaron, a small market town situated in the Teifi valley some eleven miles north of the university town of Lampeter. Although not far from the boundaries with the old counties of Brecknockshire and Radnorshire this area of Ceredigion remains the county's greatest bastion of the Welsh Language.

The Town lies at the confluence of two rivers which flow through Cors Caron or Tregaron Bog, a marshland of international scientific interest which borders on the town. This is mountainous country offering striking views for visitors who will find a wide variety of accommodation at their disposal. A few miles to the north of the town beyond the village of Pontrhydfendigaid the river Teifi rises and begins the journey to its estuary at Cardigan from the Teifi Pools, six adjacent lakes some of which are dammed. Other places of interest include the village of Llanddewi Brefi and Strata Florida. Legend has it that the ground rose up to allow David, patron saint of Wales, to address the congregation in Llanddewi Brefi. The resultant mound can be seen to this day and the parish church is built upon it. Strata Florida abbey fell victim to the Dissolution. It survives in ruins and is reputed to be the burial place of Dafydd ap Gwilym, the most notable of the Welsh strict metre poets of the Middle Ages. Dafydd has become a subject of international scholarship and his work ranks with the finest examples of courtly love poetry of the period.
